Located at a short distance of just 9 miles in the north of Panaji, the marvelous Calangute Beach offers an exciting vacation for the holidaymakers in Goa. Many villages are located in and around this stunning beach in Goa but not any of these have any direct association with the Calangute Beach so as to be known by its name. Buses from Panaji can take you to the Calangute Beach in 45 minutes, this popular beach, one of most bustling commercial area of Goa, being located in close proximity to Panaji.
The striking Calangute Beach featuring swaying arrays of palm trees, extends to almost four miles along the coastline of Goa. The best time for visiting the Calangute Beach of Goa is between the months of November and February, the peak season for the tourists to visit Calangute. In the time period from the 60s to the 70s, this famous tourist spot in Goa, was famous as a hangout for the hippies who are now transformed into yuppies. In spite of that, the Calangute Beach at Goa still retains its old charm, the quiet serene beaches and the eternal sun. This beach in Goa always remains filled with the sun-bathers who also love to savor the mouthwatering flavors of fresh seafood items. The famous Kerkar Art Complex is an important tourist attraction located nearby the Calangute Beach which hosts crafts and arts exhibitions organized by the local residents.
Traditional classical music performances are also held on the Thursdays as well as on the Fridays. A lively market on the Saturdays along the Calangute Beach close to the local post office, welcomes the shoppers to bargain and purchase whatever they want to. The items sold in this market range from groceries to fishes and meats and from textiles and potteries to Kashmiri embroideries and carpets. The Tibetan market in the beach is also an exciting place for the tourists to visit in Calangute. And if you want to try something unique on your trip to the Calangute Beach, you can opt for Zuari and Mandovi River tours for spotting dolphins or crocodiles. The dolphins are found playing at the Mandovi River’s mouth whereas the crocodiles can be spotted in their homes in mangroves and swamps.
